Cashino

Value, risk and materiality.
This series of works depicts a number of casino chips made out of different colors and types of Greek marble.
The issue of value in the arts and the comparison between the art market and gambling are two subjects raised through these pieces which are all titled out of the selling price of each piece.
The actual value of the marble – which is a quite expensive and precious material by itself – comes to disappear so as the value of the artwork becomes our main subject and matter to look at.
The chips appear either in two-dimensional piles or pictured while falling to the ground.
Meanwhile the realistic image of the chips becomes a picture of either a victory or a potential defeat. The money is transformed into chips and the chips are transformed into a work of art which is mainly presented in art fairs or commercial galleries.
The aim of the work is to mock and quip.
