Untitled

Vasilis Papageorgiou presents a new wall composition, using a series of marble casino chips hanged as they are falling from the sky. The casino chips derive from Vasilis’ constant interest in community places, like casinos and other small scale gambling places, bars, stadiums, where we gather after work and we manage to take some time off, feeling part of a whole but at the same time alone. Besides this, issues of value – of our time, of our actions, of money, and also of art and artworks – are central in this series of works, which are a comment to the art system in relation to gambling: each piece is titled out of its price (3000 €, 2800 €, 2500 €), decided by a common agreement between the artist, the gallerists and even the buyer, and subjected to the rules and fluctuation of the art market.
The actual value of the marble – which is an expensive and precious material by itself – comes to disappear so as the value of the artwork becomes the main issue to focus on.
